The EHS Varsity soccer team won Thursday’s home conference game against Weld Central from Keenesburg, Co. with a score of 2-1. Senior Annibal Mendoza scored one of the goals, “I scored a goal, it was great.” Mendoza is the top goal-getter averaging 1.5 per game,  ” I was 12 when I started  playing.”

He started messing around with his friends kicking a ball around and got hooked, “I was at the park with some friends and we started to play soccer and they told me about a team called Englewood Express and I joined.”

Medoza says he still gets excited every time he plays, “The emotion it gives me every time I play is happiness. I love the feeling of the ball on my feet no matter if it’s in a game or just messing around.” This is his final season with Englewood and it is hard for him to think about what comes next, “It feels weird.  I’ve been going to school my whole life but it gives me a feeling of satisfaction knowing I have completed a part of my life and going to start something even bigger.”

Bigger and better means college and a possible future as an athlete,  “I’m going to try to play college level soccer at Metro or even Kentucky.” But right now, he is still focussed on this season.

The team takes on Fort Lupton Tuesday.
