Englewood, Co.-Your opinion is needed. Now that voters in Englewood approved the bond and mill levy, district leaders are beginning the process of planning for the new elementary schools and preschool building.

According to the district leaders, before bringing this issue to voters, it did a lot of investigatory work around potential plans for each school based on the kinds of offerings and opportunities in the new buildings. During that time, architects advised district leaders that the Bishop Elementary site is smaller than what is ideal for an elementary school, while the site of the Early Childhood Education Center at Maddox is larger than what is needed for a preschool. Because of this, the district is considering moving Bishop Elementary (3100 S. Elati St.) to the current Maddox Early Childhood Education site (700 W. Mansfield Ave.), and moving Maddox to the current site of Bishop.

This change would take effect when the buildings are complete—approximately the fall of 2019.

The decision will affect many families so the Englewood Board of Education hosted two community meetings in the middle of January.

Even if you did not attend one of these town hall meetings, but have an opinion or question about this decision, you can write to Tena Prange, President of the Board of Education, at [email protected] or:
