The entire EHS marching band poses after their 3rd place finish.

Echo Park, Parker, Co.-The park in Parker was filled with bands from all over Colorado. All hoping to take home a coveted state trophy. Bands have practiced for months, even spending summer mornings learning new routines. On Monday, October 30, the Englewood Marching Band took the day off from regular classes, got on a bus at 10 am and got ready for a battle of the bands. The EHS group was successful taking home 3rd. “We’ve grown as a band because we haven’t had 3rd place in 6 years,” Junetta Campbell (9) said. Campbell is in the Color Guard. This is her first year in EHS band, but she has been playing clarinet and bass clarinet for 2 years.

The competition is intense, “I had mixed emotion, there were so many bands and a lot of people. I was nervous and scared,” Campbell said. She is one of more than 100 members played one final song of the season during the competition. “I think we got third because some people weren’t squaring their shoulders,” said Campbell. This means your shoulders are facing the direction you are going. “I am proud of how we did because it is my first year in Band and we got a medal,” Campbell says the group performed well and didn’t let the cold affect them.

“I think we did well because people finally got into the right mindset and worked harder and performed better than we had all season,” Emma Maschka (10) said. “The band came together and encouraged each other to give their all,” Jaelyn Kinton (10) said.
