It is Homecoming season and many students are looking forward to the dance. Homecoming is September 7-14, 2024.
Junior Hailey Rae Darras is excited, “I think they’re really fun, especially if you go to them with your friends or people you like. Sometimes the music is really good and they get a good DJ. So that’s pretty cool.”
The school dance is Saturday, September 14, from 7:00-10:00 pm in the EHS Commons.
“My favorite thing about Homecoming is that the school comes together and we can all bond,” said senior Josh Jones.
Jones says he knows there are a new set of rules in place for dances this year, “I feel like the rules are pretty fair because it’s like a privilege now and not something you can just have for free.”
Administrators have put a few new policies in place for the 24-25 school year.
According to the Attendance Policy, students must have an attendance rate of 75% or above for the current semester to attend the dance. Attendance will be reviewed one week before the dance. Students with 75% attendance or higher will receive a voucher that will allow them to purchase a dance ticket during lunch or after school at the entrance to TEC library.
All tickets must be purchased in advance. They are not selling tickets at the door.
Additionally, students who have an attendance rate of 95% or higher will get into the dance for free. We will distribute vouchers and free tickets to students on Tuesday, September 10 during first period. Students without a first period will need to get their vouchers from their Seminar Mentor.
Social studies teacher and coach Sean Stetler says he likes the rules, “I like seeing kids dressed up wearing more formal clothes than they wear to school. I like those rules, they sound good.”
Students who are eligible to attend may bring a date from another school. Those wishing to bring non-Englewood students must complete and submit a Homecoming Guest Form to the front office by 3:30 on Wednesday, September 11. We will not be accepting late applications.
Teachers hope students have a great time at the dance, “As a school chaperone, it’s nice to see kids get into their own element and have fun,” said English teacher Lindsay Crenwelge. Junior Lucky Frazier likes dances and doesn’t mind the rules, “I think that the new rules are a cool idea and they are fun.”
