Very few people would admit to loving Math, but you need to if you’re going to teach it. Michael Sun teaches 9th-grade Algebra 1 and 10th-grade Honors Geometry. He has always really liked solving problems, “I was always pretty good at math when I was a student and I really enjoyed the logic behind the math problems and love conveying students and hopefully inspiring them to think logically about math.”
To get students as excited as he is about the content, “I bring students into the conversations with my teaching where I ask students to raise their hands and ask a lot of questions. I try to come up with relatable examples.”
Sun loves when students catch on, “When students get that ah-ha moment with the concepts and do really well on the tests.”
Sun began teaching in 2015, “When I graduated with a bachelor’s degree, I had a chance to go to Japan overseas and teach abroad after that experience, I came back to the United States and decided to get my teaching license here because I enjoyed teaching so much.”
If you are struggling with Math, you could try a few tips, “My advice would be to not fall behind in the content. If you miss one thing, the next concept will be much harder to grasp. Math is a subject you always need to stay on top of things.”
