New schedule released!
We give you a look at the new schedule for next school year!
Students, your prayers have been answered! At least when considering the school schedule for next year. It is no secret that students are not in love with the Generation school schedule that has been implemented during the current 2015-16 school year. However, the current schedule is not here to stay.
Next year’s schedule is shaping out to be very unlike the current Generation School’s schedule with a later start time, an earlier release time, seven 50-60 minute periods Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, alternating 80-90 min blocks Wednesday and Thursday, and only two 40 min lunch periods.
“A couple of the goals of the schedule were more choices for kids, start later, end earlier, meet everyday, have some way to have academic support time in there, and have a few times where staff can still collaborate,” Principal John Fore said.
When considering the start time will be at 8:20 a.m. and the school day will end at 3:30p.m., students like Bria Look (9) are appreciative.
“I’m happy because the amount of sleep I was getting was not very good and being able to wake up even an hour later is a lot better than when I’m waking up now,” Look said.
Although having the same classes everyday is something students next year are not familiar with, the idea is met with overall positivity, despite being hesitant about some of the aspects of not having alternating blocks everyday.
“I think it’s [next year’s schedule] good. I think that there will be more time to cover more material in a more timely manner, but then again it’s nice to have breaks from classes,” said R.J. Rivera (11).
Rivera is not the only student who has mixed feelings when it comes to leaving behind the constant alternating blocks of this current school year’s schedule.
“That [having the same classes every day] could help people get into more of a rhythm with knowing that their going to each class everyday. On the other hand, I feel like if we had every class every day we might end up getting the same amount of homework we already do except every day, which might lead to people having the same problem we have this year were we don’t have enough time to do things,” states Daniel Martins(10).
Perhaps next year’s schedule will not be able to appease everyone and about everything, but, according to Principal Fore, it was created with the students in mind and from listening to what the students want.
“We looked at the surveys. We surveyed parents, students, and staff about this years schedule and basically dissected all of their feedback and designed the goals of next year’s schedule based on the feedback we got from you guys,” Fore said.
Student’s like Martins are grateful that the student input was taken into account. “I appreciate that they are listening to the students and the parents and all of the people that have talked about the schedule throughout the year and that they’re actually listening to our feedback to make the times more manageable and to make education more efficient instead of more stressful,” Martins said.
