In a display of teamwork and skill, Englewood High School came out victorious in its Friday night season home opener against Hinkley High School, securing an impressive final score of 63 to 6.
The match, held at Englewood’s home stadium, attracted a crowd of enthusiastic parents, students, and staff who cheered their team on throughout the game. As the night continued, Englewood demonstrated its dominance on the field, with impressive plays and strategic maneuvers that paid off, “So the game with Hinkley was really good. It was a very good game to test ourselves and see how our season is going to look, bringing a lot of kids together,” #11 Quarterback Dylan Noll (’26) said.
As the game unfolded, it became clear that Englewood was in control, showcasing the hard work and dedication of the players and Head Coach Wade Auld.
Auld says this win builds team confidence and morale, which is crucial for maintaining a positive attitude throughout the season in the future. A decisive victory like this demonstrates the team’s skill, preparation, and ability to execute game plans effectively. Additionally, such a win can strengthen community support, encouraging people to come to the next games and more, and shows that the school spirit is strong. This fosters a sense of pride among students and the community and encourages future support for the team.
Winning by a large margin also positions Englewood as a competitive force in its league, potentially influencing its ranking and reputation among other teams. It sets a positive tone for the season, indicating that they are capable of performing well under pressure and can handle competitive challenges ahead. Overall, it’s not just a win on the scoreboard; it carries implications for growth, community, and competitiveness. “We found that it was a very good game to get a lot of kids in and get a lot of kids that experience playing high school football. You know, a lot of kids are new. Never played football before, never played high school football. It’s a different level for a lot of them. So it was a really good game to get everyone in and bring the team together and see how it’s going to work this year,” Noll (’26) said.
Students and teachers at the school are proud of the team’s victory. “I’m happy, I feel like it went good, I think,” cheerleader Cody Boucher said, “Hopefully, we win more, and hopefully they don’t get into their heads. I’m really proud of us and I know we’re going to do great.”
The strong sense of school spirit is evident, “It was pretty good because we blew them out,” freshman Logan Deviln said. Additionally, students Zoey Harkness and Jessi Garcia expressed their happiness over the significance of this win, noting how proud they were of all the players.
How does the team plan to follow up on this victory? “Well, coming up, we have Denver West. We took a hard loss last year, and the year before that took a bad loss as well. So we’re really excited to go and play Denver West and try to beat them and have a really good game. After that, we’re playing, you know, tougher schedules, Strasburg, Elizabeth. But overall, I think we’re feeling really good about them,” Noll said.
