Graduation 2017

The weather was cold and snow on the field forced the ceremony inside, but that didn’t hamper the enthusiasm felt by a little more than a hundred candidates who accepted diplomas on Saturday. This event marks the one hundred and third annual commencement at EHS. Graduating students Sofia Montoya, Ashleigh Long, Marcos Lucero, Gabe Gravagno, Sam Westra, Alex Foster and Marta Mansbacher took part in the ceremony with motivational readings for the class of 2017.

Courtney Schauer gave the valedictorian address. She is one of 35 students graduating with honors denoting a grade point average above 3.5.

Honored teachers joined the students on stage to hand out diplomas including Jessica Bennhoff, Mark Fornnarino, Sam Irving, Chris Kavinsky, and Cassandra Weason.

In addition, Principal Ryan West honored a 1951 EHS graduate named Adventurous Jane who was denied her Valedictorian status on her graduation day because she was a girl. That wrong was righted today. The certificate will be sent to her family as a surprise (which is why we are not giving out her full name).

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
