#Defendourhome Wrestlers host first home meet
The Wrestling team hosted its first meet of the season against Heritage and Sheridan Thursday night. The team was led by Sophomore sensation James Sharp has he earned his first varsity victory of the season defeating his opponent 8-2. It was the second win for Sharp, “I won my match against my opponent from Boulder and I’m really excited about how the season is starting off,” James Sharp (10) said. The season opener was at Fairview High School in Boulder. The Pirates were led by Dwight Anderson who pinned his first opponent in 32 seconds. Jaheim Young led the JV squad racking up 9 takedowns in one match.
Coach Lorenzo Moreno says wrestlers are working hard, “The team is starting to get used to the intensity of wrestling practice, and now that we have wrestled in a tournament, they understand why we condition so much.”
Engelwood has a girl on team. They call her Paige the Punisher, “Paige ‘The Punisher’ is a great addition to our team. She works hard and isn’t afraid to challenge any of the guys in the room, and she is a two-sport athlete as a swimmer as well, all while maintaining a solid GPA.”
Coach Moreno says this sport is only for those who work hard,”It takes a lot of dedication and discipline to be a wrestler. If you want to build mental and physical toughness, then wrestling is the perfect sport for you.”
