Varsity squeeks out a win over Fort Lupton
40-38 Final score
Good defense by both teams made for a strong match-up between Englewood and Fort Lupton Thursday night. Throughout the low scoring game, Englewood struggled to score. Gabe Torres, Josiah Hazard, and Ty Ivory helped the team climb back in the game with a combination of layups, free throws, and rebounding. The game was close until the end when Ty Ivory drove to the rim on a fast-break and made a lay-up to give Englewood the lead. They would hold the lead until the end of the game.
Fort Lupton struggled to shoot and players sent Englewood to the free-throw line by fouling often. “I kept the team within 10-points by using my body to move people out of the way,” Gabe Torres (10) said. “I bring a different tempo and different game style to the court,” Torres said. His teammates say, Torres, who also plays football, helps with an offensive linemen style footwork on the basketball court. The final score 40-38.
