There is new video game surfacing around campus. Students have been teaming up to take out their opponents in this new game called Fort Nite. The purpose of this game is to come in first place using weapons and collecting resources to build barriers against others. Up to 100 people can play at any one time.

“It’s fun, I like building things,” Isaac Medrano (9) said. Students are able to build forts, bigger than skyscrapers. They protect themselves from the storm and other people. “I like using the emoticons,” Kayden Bacca (9) said.

Players can interact with other players, by using waving, dancing, dabbing and other emoticons. Some students say they have become addicted to this game. “I’m playing it right now,” says Angel Villarruel (10) said while sitting down in the commons during his off period. It can be distracting for boys all around campus but some say it is also making them work together to get to a goal.

According to the game website, Fortnite is set in contemporary Earth, where the sudden appearance of a worldwide storm causes 98% of the world’s population to disappear, and zombie-like creatures rise to attack the remainder.

Players gain rewards through these missions to improve their hero characters, support teams, and an arsenal of weapon and trap schematics to be able to take on more difficult missions. The game is supported by microtransactions to purchase in-game currency that can be used towards these upgrades.

The developer’s website says Fortnite provides two distinct modes: a player-versus-environment “Save the World”, and a player-versus-player “Battle Royale”.
