Longtime EHS teacher John Sanger passes away
Sanger made his mark on EHS
August 30, 2016
Englewood, Co.-John Sanger, longtime EHS teacher (33 years in English, PE, and weight training), coach, and the person whose name appears above the door of our weight room, passed away Sunday August 28th.
As a way to remember his contributions to our school, we share a page from our past in the Pirateer newsroom. Thank you to former Pirateer adviser Sheila Jones who sent this wonderful tribute to Sanger. It appeared in the February 2010 issue.
Jones worked with Sanger for many years and has very fond memories of him, “He was a great teacher, a true character, and so dedicated to the school. The weight room was named for him because he paid for the equipment to establish it in the beginning. He and his twin brother were both champion athletes in their own right”.

Mr. Sanger was one of a kind. He was easy to love like a huge teddy bear. Your deep loud yell will be missed, you always gave me crap about the boys. You made me a better athlete and made be stronger on the inside and out. RIP Mr. Sanger, we love you. Class of 2001

Coach Sanger was a great man! He signed my yearbook, “your hero, Mr. Sanger”.
He was my hero!
R.I.P. Coach Sanger.
You were my inspiration to give coaching a try 27 years ago.

He was such a strong, yet kind presence for me while I was in school. He was my weight training teacher, but most importantly, he was our cheerleading coach my senior year! He let us get away with more than we should have, but it was a great experience. He will be very missed. Deepest sympathies to his family, friends and all who loved him.

Coach Sanger will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him! He was there for me when I stepped out of line and was there to reward the “pancake” when ordered to put an opposing teams player on his back. Joe O’kane and I performed such requested duties and found ourselves enjoying steak with him at the Hoffbrau! I am glad to have memory of him as a strong, musk wearing, Porsche driving, surrounded by gorgeous women, man amongst men! I am a better man because I know him.
Rest in peace big horse!
