Students at EHS rally around injured JV football player

Yakez Daughtry (9) broke his fibula and dislocated his ankle during the game against Elizabeth Monday.

Freshman Yakez Daughtry who is known by his teammates to be a strong, physical player was injured during the JV football game against rival Elizabeth Monday afternoon. Daughtry plays as a linebacker and fullback for the JV team and is a lineman on the Varsity team.

The injury happened during the 4th quarter of the game with 2:00 minutes left to play. According to players who witnessed the incident, Elizabeth ran a play to the left, Daughtry dropped back into coverage. The Elizabeth quarterback scrambled to the left and threw a pass to his tight-end. Daughtry intercepted the pass. Daughtry got tackled at the ankles as soon as he caught the pass, he dropped to his knees and another player from Elizabeth came in and hit Daughtry high around his head. The force of the hit high and low proved to be too much for his legs and Daughtry fell to the ground in pain.

According to posts on Facebook by his sister, Daughtry broke his fibula and dislocated his ankle. The EHS trainer and the coach called for an ambulance. Daughtry was taken to Swedish Medical Center.
