The track and field team at Englewood High has turned laps into legacy. In 2026, the Pirates didn’t just compete. They rewrote the record book.
For the first time in school history, both the boys and girls teams captured Frontier League championships, proving the team is hitting its stride all at once.
The numbers tell part of the story. The girls powered their way to 201 points, while the boys followed with 178, stacking up finishes that kept Englewood ahead of the pack.
Individually, Pirates athletes carved out standout performances across the board. Selle Strawbridge dominated the 400 and 800. Lola Bruns took the 1600, while Eleanor Graham claimed the 3200. On the boys’ side, Silas Strawbridge delivered a distance triple in the 1600, 800, and 3200, and Travis Miles secured the shot put title.
But this season wasn’t just about first-place finishes. For the first time in program history, Englewood scored points in every single track and field event, including the pole vault, a sign of depth that turned the team into a complete force.
Dylan Noll says the success didn’t happen overnight.
“We developed a really balanced and well-rounded team these last few years, allowing us to compete in all events and grow as an entire program.”
That balance translated into something deeper than results. It shaped a culture.
“We brought together a culture that was proud of each other and proud of our sport. This allowed us to compete as a team, work hard together in practice, and find the fun in track.”
According to Noll, this year marked a turning point in mindset.
“I feel the team took a new step this year in how serious we wanted to be, athletes took track as a sport to compete and be the best in, not just an extracurricular activity.”
As the season heads toward its final stretch, that mindset could make all the difference.
“Going into these last few meets, everyone figured out their place and role within the team. People accepted what events they could best help with and made sure to work hard on them, even if they weren’t their favorite. This allowed us to put your best athletes forward in the end and win the league championship.”
The Pirates now set their sights on their home meet, the Windjammer, scheduled for May 8 and 9, 2026, where they’ll look to carry that momentum forward.
And behind it all, leadership on the sidelines hasn’t gone unnoticed. Coaches John Cusick and Sean Stetler were named Coach of the Year.
