As the track and field season unfolds, the focus shifts to individual aspirations and the relentless pursuit of improvement. For seniors like Jack McGirl, the track represents a final opportunity to leave a lasting legacy. With college on the horizon, McGirl is determined to push his limits, aiming to jump higher and run faster than ever before.

Jump higher and run faster
“Looking to get to state, I’m looking to break some school records here at Englewood and hit the time fast enough to maybe get the scholarship to Colorado Mesa,” McGirl said.
After having a season stunted by illness, McGirl of Englewood High School is setting other big goals to accomplish this track season. Aiming to break school records, make it to state, secure a scholarship to Colorado Mesa and achieve Personal Records (PRs) in the 800 and 400-meter races.
Freshman phenom
Meanwhile a freshman phenom named Micheal Kish, will be taking part in his first season of high school track and brings solid running experience from cross country. He is looking for a good introduction season.
“Well, as a freshman, this is my first year participating in cross country, but I had decent experience, because I ran track all throughout middle school, and I had a pretty good mile time, which kind of correlates the distance running that you take part in when you do cross country. And I made state, and I qualified as an individual, so I think I’m pretty well experienced,” Kish said hoping those successes carry over to track.
Goals for the season
With each passing competition, the athletes draw closer to their ultimate goals, facing both triumphs and setbacks along the way. These athletes are driven by a hunger for success, preparing for the state championships, and excited for the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. As they step onto the track, runners, jumpers and throwers know that this is their moment to shine, to leave it all on the line, and to prove to the world what they are capable of. The starting gun fires, and runners explode off the blocks, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead, knowing that the journey is far from over, and the possibilities are endless.
