The Englewood High School varsity girls soccer team is heading into the postseason with an impressive 12–2–1 overall record.
Senior Christina Molina Quintana, a first-year defensive player with no prior experience, is ranked #106 in the state and says her favorite part of playing is the team environment.
“My friends are on the team, and I like the competition that it brings.”
She says one of the biggest challenges this season has been adjusting to new opponents and teammates.
“The hardest thing about the season has been adapting to different teams and just getting used to playing with new girls.”
As the team prepares for the playoffs, Molina says she’s excited for the opportunity.
“I feel pretty good since they went to the playoffs every single year since our class has been here. I’m excited for them. I’ve never been to playoffs before, so it’s something new, and awesome.”
She says head coach Christopher Kavinsky is working to prepare the team for what’s ahead.
“He’s just trying to figure out our seeding and where our games will be and what days they’ll be.”

Sophomore midfielder Jaqueline Valente Guerreiro, who has played soccer for 10 years, says the season has been a mix of challenges and growth.
“It’s been good. We’ve had ups and downs, sometimes we struggle a bit, but we always get back to it. It’s been pretty fun.”
She credits the coaching staff for helping guide the team to the playoffs.
“He wants us to keep our heads up. Just keep trying, don’t give up, and stay in the game.”
For Valente, the biggest takeaway has been the relationships she’s built.
“The girls and the friendships I’ve made.”
The team will begin playoff competition on Thursday, May 7, marking their fourth consecutive postseason appearance.
