Hello and welcome to PirateTV.

(School Zone) We begin with traffic issues in front of Englewood High School. 

Every weekday afternoon, the final bell at Englewood High School sends hundreds of students into a busy mix of cars and pedestrians.

(vo) 

Young drivers pull out of the parking lot while cars line Logan Street, many waiting to pick up students. Parked vehicles often block drivers’ views, making it hard to see oncoming traffic or students crossing the street. Several accidents and near-misses have already happened here.

With so many pedestrians and limited visibility, students are asking whether more safety measures are needed. Should a clearly marked school zone sign slow traffic around campus? And would no-parking signs along Logan Street improve visibility and reduce crashes?

As students head home each day, the question remains: Is this area as safe as it should be?

(sots) 

(chief) Now we turn to law enforcement.

We spoke with Englewood Police Chief David Jackson about teen safety in our community. We also spoke about a curfew. A lot of EHS teens don’t know there is one in Englewood. Here’s what the chief had to say.

(sot)

Chief Jackson went into detail on issues including traffic concerns, the city’s youth curfew, and questions students have raised about ICE. You can watch the entire interview on The Pirateer dot com. 

(senioritis) As March rolls in, another challenge starts to set in for seniors: senioritis.

With graduation in sight, many students say staying motivated gets harder. But teachers and counselors say finishing strong still matters. Attendance, grades, and personal responsibility now can impact graduation, scholarships, and future opportunities.

(college) For many seniors, one of the biggest decisions of their lives is finally becoming real.

(vo) 

After months of applications, waiting, and weighing options, students are committing to the schools they’ll attend next year. Excitement, relief, and nervousness often come all at once—along with questions about money, moving away, and what the future will look like.

(German) One year ago, six Englewood High School students, one teacher, and the mayor of Englewood traveled to Belm, Germany, as part of the sister city exchange. Now, in March, six students from Germany will be coming here.

For many of them, this may be their first time in the U.S., and everything, from school routines to food and slang, may feel new. Students can help make their experience better by being welcoming, patient, and curious. Simple things like including them in conversations, explaining traditions, and inviting them to activities can go a long way.

Cultural differences are part of the experience, so asking respectful questions and keeping an open mind helps everyone learn. More than anything, these exchanges are about connection, showing our guests what life at EHS is really like and making them feel at home.

(yearbook) There has been a yearbook class at EHS since the 1920’s. 

The books are found in the library, stacked by year. You can find some of the older books covered in plastic because their pages are over 100 years old. The current EHS yearbook staff is working hard on the 2026 issue. You can get your hands on one by going to the Walsworth yearbooks website. You need to type in Englewood High School and pay online. 

(sports wrap) Winter sports are wrapping up, and basketball heads into regional tournaments.   That means spring sports are just a few weeks away at Englewood High School.

We spoke to Athletic Director Thomas Rode about what you can expect.

Para muchos de ellos, puede ser su primera vez en Estados Unidos, y todo—desde las rutinas escolares hasta la comida y la jerga—puede sentirse nuevo. Los estudiantes pueden ayudar a mejorar su experiencia siendo amables, pacientes y curiosos.
