Hello and welcome to the Pirate TV announcements at Englewood High School! We have a lot to get to. I’m Juliet Arana
And I’m Abby Williams. Let’s jump into this week’s updates!
(resource) When you are struggling, it is important to know where you can get support. Here in Englewood, we have the Englewood Resource Center for students and families. Josue Hoffman tells us how you can use this valuable resource, and if you can… how you can help.

One of the EHS groups that really came through for the Resource Center was the National Honor Society. The group ran two concession stands, collected cash donations from students, and collected used toys from elementary schools. In all, the NHS raised 513 dollars and toys for the Englewood Resource Center.

The Center is at 300 West Chenango Avenue, on the south side of Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice. Please reach out to Clarice Fortunado for available times and dates.
(character AI) Character dot AI is significantly restricting teens under 18 from open-ended chats with AI bots. They are worried about mental health risks. According to CNN, the platform has been linked to teen suicides.

The changes also come after lawsuits and regulatory pressure. This will shift focus for young users towards creative features like story or video generation, and introduce stricter age verification and parental controls. These changes, rolled out a few weeks ago, replaced free-form conversations with a full ban, aiming to prioritize safety while transitioning teens to less interactive, creative tools, though causing some emotional distress for existing users.
(Spirit) December can be a stressful time for students who are working hard to get ready for finals. Several events kicked off winter spirit week so students can decompress ahead of a busy end of semester.
(assembly) (stop for NATS)

The Winter events kicked off on Friday, December 5th, with an end-of-day assembly. It is looking like this year is shaping up as a year full of school spirit. The volleyball game pitted teachers against the senior class, with the seniors winning the matchup. The cheer squad showed their routine they executed at the state competition at the Denver Colosseum. Then each class pumped up the spirit with a round of the Pirate Fight song.

On Wednesday, upperclassmen took on underclassmen in a game of volleyball.
(peachvo)
Called the Peach Fuzz event, it was a fun way to show their skills on the court and get points for the spirit week for their individual class. The match was close the entire time, with both teams winning at some point during the evening. In the end, the upperclassmen won two games to zero.
Let’s toss it to the sports team.
Hello and welcome… I’m Syrus Newton
And I’m…Delorian Thomas. Here’s a look at your sports action during this winter season.

The cheer team was on the A mat, moving up divisions to 4A and 5A. This means they competed at a higher level. Athletes say they had a strong routine but fell just short of placing. Next, the winter cheer team will be on hand at basketball and wrestling events.

The swim team is robust this year, with nearly a dozen on the squad. The swimmers are led by team captain Ryan Lighthill. She has been on the swim team for three years. She loves swimming and says it is great exercise. She swims the 500, 200, all the relays, and occasionally the 100.

And finally, we can’t forget the Denver Broncos.
(Broncos) vo
Early struggles, close losses, and an offense still finding its pulse set a rocky tone. But in recent weeks, the defense has sharpened, the offense has steadied, and fans at Empower Field have seen a strong season. The story isn’t finished, and the last stretch could rewrite the mood in Orange County. The team stands tied at the top of the AFC West at 12-2 and is in the playoffs.
(year wrap)What has this semester been like for students and staff? Busy! Here’s a wrap on the school year so far at Englewood High School.
