Long standing choir tradition continues

Choir Director Garlyn Saddler keeps the holidays bright.

For several decades, Englewood High School alumni come home from the far reaches of the globe to sing during the holidays. Carol of the Bells arr. by Peter J. Wilhousky, has been sung by choir members young and old each December as part of the Holiday concert.

This year, however, with a global pandemic, the likelihood of the event taking place was just a memory. Then, a thought! Why not use a large open space and bring the song to life again.

So, on Friday, December 18, 2020, the last day of the first semester, singers gathered at the Englewood Civic Center parking garage and belted out the song, donning masks and keeping a healthy distance. Choir members from the class of 1976 through to those who will graduate in the next few years, joined voices and let the song echo through the garage. Here is one long-standing tradition that remains intact.
