A storm rolled in ahead of Monday’s matchup between EHS and DSST: Byers. EHS soccer players were thinking about the last time they met DSST: Byers. It was a tie and they were preparing for a challenging game. Before the first kick-off, lightning in the area forced a 25-minute delay.

Once play began, Englewood came out strong, aggressive, and energetic, “We started more aggressively. We had more chances at the start of the game to score,” said Josue Lopez (11) who played right midfield during the matchup.

The first score of the game came within the first four minutes. Miguel Rodriguez (11) plays center midfield took the honors, “The goal was off a free kick. It was nice to score the first goal of the season. It was nice to see the energy of the team after the first goal. We started playing better and as a team.”

“After the first goal, we noticed we were the better team. It made us more confident,” said Lopez.

Shortly after that goal, there was another lightning delay. Once play resumed, the team racked up three more points. Two total scored by Rodriguez, one from Brandon Mendoza, and another one from Adrian Cano.

The next game is Thursday against Littleton.
