In hallways, the cafeteria, and in classrooms, you can see all students thinking and planning spring break. Spring break is right around the corner, March 16 through the 20th, for our students, and many wonder if spring break is a critical thing for students here at Englewood High School. Many believe it’s good to get a break from school and other things that may be weighing on students. However, many believe breaks are bad and may even cause trouble for teachers. However, sophomore Lili Manfre thinks otherwise.
Manfre can’t wait for spring break. “I get excited since it’s a good mental break from school and everything,” said Manfre. Many believe this way since research supports the fact that it helps relax minds from the stress of school and worry about fixing other things they may have going on. Not just that, but Manfre also believes you can do fun activities you wouldn’t be able to do during school hours. “Like go to the mountains with my family or be able to hang out with my friends,” says Manfre, and many students and teachers alike.

Brandy Bartholomew, a teacher for 9-12th graders, believes Spring Break is a good thing, just like Manfre. Yet she still believes that there are flaws. “I think it’s good that we have a break, but I think sometimes it’s hard to come back into focus after a break. I do think that we all need a little break from school.” She believes it’s good, but also points out flaws, such as students struggling to focus once more. But just like Manfre, Bartholomew also enjoys the spring because of the activities she can do. “What I enjoy during spring break is doing some projects.”
According to drmessina.com, counseling, therapy, and psychiatric services, spring break is important for high school students. ”Spring break has been shown to be highly beneficial to students’ mental health because this week of vacation allows for a much-needed mental decompression from demanding school-related responsibilities.”

Supporting the need students have for this break since it helps give them relief from academic stress. The article also stated, “Not only has spring break proven to be fantastic for the mental health state, but it is undoubtedly beneficial for an individual’s physical health, too. When the mental state is in the right place, then the physical body also reaps all of the incredible rewards. Stress and anxiety can be reduced during this time, which we certainly know by now is massively favorable to the overall health of an individual.”
